Honourable Commissioner For Women Affairs And Social Development

Dr. Rosaline Osemetiti Okosun
President and Founder
Association Against Women Export (AAWE)

I wish to congratulate you on behalf of myself and the good people of Edo State most especially our women and girls who are the vulnerable group who have engaged in various skills instead of being exported for Prostitution. The Association Against Women Export provides support and facilities to women and girls with a focus on economic development, linked to the advancement of Education, Training, Employment, and Enterprise Development with the aim of improving quality of life.

The Association Against women Export (AAWE) has also developed a Social Enterprise that trains and creates employment for young people. In Nigeria, with the levels of unemployment extremely high, young people are driven into crimes, while our young women and girls face discrimination and sexual immorality that impinge on their ability to contribute economically. The increase in criminal activities has also seen the rise of young women and girls being trafficked for sex trade from various states. It has enhanced young women and girls to better use their time rather than engage in anti-social activities.

The Association Against women Export (AAWE) has worked tirelessly with other organizations against Sex Trafficking and to address the issue of young women and girls being moved illegally from Edo State to other countries, and promoting a strong and united forum for collaborative work in the interest of women and girls.

We are impressed with the achievement your association have made and the progress in eradication of prostitution, empowering women, focusing on dealing effectively with the challenges facing women and girls in our society. The creation of a sustainable strategy and capacity building of AAWE that has supported the less privileged young women and girls in our society, who are marginalized and have very few opportunities to access employment or source of fund to start Business have been Empowered by your Association.

Wishing you all the best in your endeavour.

Hajia Maimuna Momodu

Honourable Commissioner For Women Affairs And Social Development

Message from AAWE's former Chair of Board of Trustees

With profound gratitude to God, I am happy for the progress made by the ASSOCIATION AGAINST WOMEN EXPORT (AAWE). Until my election as the Superior General of my Congregation, I was the chair of Board of Trustees here in Benin City. We ensured that microcredit was given to indigent women of Edo State extraction. AAWE provided the funding for this project which has helped a lot of women to take care of themselves and their families. The loan provided is a revolving one at 0.5 percent. Our women are always happy taking our loan especially as they are treated with dignity to their persons and given enough time to use the loan before returning it. Our loan has become very popular that we are not able to meet with the requests before us. I pray that those supporting AAWE with finance will be able to provide more fund for this laudable project.

The scholarship programme is another project of AAWE targeting female University undergraduates from Edo State who have no one to assist them with their tuition, books, room and board. The assistance of this effort has produced graduates in Law already. Other beneficiaries will be passing out very soon. This arm of the AAWE work in collaboration with COSUDOW is very important as it has reduced the incidence of trafficking in women in Edo State which is very endemic with trafficking in human beings in Nigeria. More important is the fact that these young ladies/women have been empowered for life and are adequately prepared to face the challenges of life in the future in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world.

As AAWE carries on with its good work in the interest of humanity, I commend all those who work tirelessly for the success of the projects. I am grateful to those who provide the fund for the projects. I thank God for the life of Dr. Roseline Okosun for the vision to bring AAWE as an NGO into existence. AAWE has become an instrument in the fight to uplift the dignity of women. The website will therefore help to showcase the good projects of the NGO. I encourage all to access the site. Well done to all of us!

While commending you all to the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

I remain yours truly,Sr. Florence Nwaonuma, SSH.

Rosaline E. Okosun, Ph.D
President/Founder Association Against Women Export London, Ontario,

Dear Dr. Okosun:

Congratulations on the tenth anniversary celebration of the Association Against Women Export. During your brief history, you have become a beacon of hope for many young women who otherwise would have ended up being trafficked or exploited. I thank you and your collaborators in your effort at educating womenfolk in our country particularly in Edo State. Is a fact that about 90% of over 20 thousand of young women victims of trafficking are from Edo State. Your project has prevented many from fallen into this number.

As our Founder, Archbishop Patrick Ekpu always says: “no culture or civilization can stand until the womenfolk of that culture has fully assumed their role”. Through AAWE you have help to give our women opportunity to assume their role in society. Yours has been a very essential and unique contribution to Nigerian! May God reward you abundantly and may he give you many more years of service.

Ad Multos Anno

Re: 10th Anniversary Celebration

Dear Dr. Okosun,

Congratulations on the 10 year anniversary of AAWE and for making a difference in the lives of women and young girls in Edo State! The impact of AAWE is far reaching and the organization’s remarkable success is a testament to your vision and passionate desire to be a changemaker for Edo women who need a helping hand to become economically self reliant. AAWE has achieved a lot in 10 years and this is evident in the success stories of the many young girls who have benefited from your education scholarships and the various women who have received AAWE’s micro loans. The sky is the limit for your organization!

AAWE’s character counts award is a welcome initiative that will help jump-start the much needed action around civic engagement and character education in Edo State. It is an important initiative in the re-orientation of the moral values of our young people.

Your solid contributions to women’s empowerment has garnered you awards and recognitions worldwide and have made us all proud. May your vision and goals for AAWE continue to succeed and grow!

As you continue to break new grounds and set enviable standards in the work that you do with women, may God bless you with more success!

Happy 10 years anniversary!

Go AAWE!!!
